4th of July DIY Hot Dog Bar

Posted by , May 23rd, 2016

Are you ready for the 4th of July? We know we are! Plenty of sunshine, good food and friends and family always make the 4th one of our favorite holidays here at ShopRite.

But maybe this year, you’re thinking you want to try something a little different? Instead of the classic run of hot dogs and hamburgers, why not set up your very own Hot Dog Bar?!

Classic hot dogs can become crazy new family favorites with fun toppings like guacamole, sriracha, bleu cheese and more!

Here are just 4 of our favorite hot dog combinations, but the possibilities are endless. Take a poll of what toppings people would like, or surprise them with interesting and unique toppings you can find at your local ShopRite.

The Tijuana Dog

Tijuana Dog

We went south of the border for the first dog in our DIY Hot Dog Bar, adding toppings like guacamole, fresh salsa, and cotija cheese. If you want to take it up a notch, feel free to add shredded taco cheese, diced jalapeno peppers, fresh cilantro, or roasted corn kernels.

The German Dog

German Dog

For our next hot dog, we sailed across the Atlantic to Germany. Top your dog with plenty of sauerkraut, and drizzle on spicy brown mustard. Looking for more? Beer cheese sauce, pickled red onions or cabbage or even sauteed potatoes would take this hot dog to a whole new level!

The Chili Cheese Dog

Chili Cheese Dog

Who doesn’t love a classic? Add a little personal flair with homemade chili, and don’t forget the melted cheese. Looking to mix things up? Top your dog with pickle chips, diced red onions, or bacon bits!

The Buffalo Bleu Dog

Buffalo Bleu Dog

Are you a fan of buffalo wings? How about buffalo chicken pizza? Then this hot dog is just for you! Top your freshly grilled hot dog with a dose of hot sauce and bleu cheese crumbles. Want more? Opt for bacon bits, popcorn chicken bites, caramelized onions, or ranch dressing!

The Sriracha Avocado Dog

Sriracha Avocado Dog

If ketchup is just not doing it for you – we highly recommend spicing things up with sriracha! Top your dog with freshly diced avocado for a spicy, creamy combo that’s sure to be a new family favorite! Want to take it a step further? Add any/all of the following: diced green onions, raw red pepper slices, matchstick carrots or sliced radish.

NJ’s fresh local vegetables are a great perk in the summer months and right now are available at your neighborhood ShopRite. These veggies have so much flavor on their own they need very little prep or other ingredients to make a tasty meal. I often grill a bunch at once and keep them in the fridge to have alongside of burgers or toss them on top of sandwiches and salads. Read More »

Lemon and Dill Grilled Wild Alaskan Salmon

Posted by , May 23rd, 2015

Every week I walk by the seafood department in my local ShopRite and see beautiful pink pieces of salmon.  This week they had a fresh-off-the-boat delivery of Wild Alaskan Salmon.  The fish monger at my store told me that it was the first of the season and actually came overnight from Alaskan waters so that it was as fresh as possible.   Read More »
