A few years ago, I made these delicious Pretzel M&M Cookie Bars. Truth be told, I was procrastinating studying for a midterm that I wasn’t looking forward to. (Read about the saga here.) Instead of doing my school work, I focused all of my energy on finding an amazing recipe chocked full of goodies to celebrate Halloween. All of my hard work paid off, and the recipe was a success! (The midterm? Ahem. Not so much.)
So now it’s your turn. Make these to celebrate Halloween. Make them to procrastinate doing something you’re avoiding. Whatever your reason, just make them!
Pretzel M&M Cookie Bars
2 cups ShopRite All Purpose Flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 ½ sticks unsalted butter, softened
1 cup ShopRite Light Brown Sugar
½ cup ShopRite Granulated Sugar
2 tsp ShopRite Pure Vanilla
12-oz Pretzel M&Ms
1 ½ cups pretzel twists, crushed, plus more for sprinkling
ShopRite Imported Hazelnut Spread (for melting and drizzling)
1. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray.
2. Whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. In a standing mixer (or with a hand mixer) beat butter, brown sugar and white sugar on medium until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs, one by one, and the vanilla. Switch the mixer to low speed and add in the dry ingredients until just mixed. Fold in the m&m’s and pretzels.
3. Spread batter into pan and press firmly down with a spatula, evening out the batter. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool completely.
4. Heat Hazlenut Spread in microwave and drizzle over cooled bars. Sprinkle more pretzels on top. Enjoy!
