The thing I like most about stir fry is how easy it is to make a simple base taste many different ways solely with sauce ingredients. Plus, stir fry is fast and easy and uses very few dishes.
The hardest part of making stir fry for my family this weekend was deciding which of the six great sauces ShopRite sent to me to use. Each had its own unique flavor. In the end, I chose the Asian Style Orange Ginger sauce because it was more mild than the others and neither of my kids is big on spicy food.
I started with my usual base of lean beef and steamed veggies, added water chestnuts and chopped tomatoes, then poured on approximately half the bottle of sauce and heated.
Easy as pie, family pleasing and also a lot lighter than take out. All in about the time it would take to order and wait for delivery. Give it a try yourself! With all the different flavors, you could eat stir fry every night and not eat the exact same meal twice!
Orange-Ginger Stir fry with Beef
1 lb top round or other meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 bags Asian Medley frozen veggies (I used Bird’s Eye Steam Fresh)
1 can water chestnuts, drained
2 Tbsp canola oil
1 bottle ShopRite Asian Style Orange Ginger sauce
hot cooked rice, optional
In a wok, cook the meat in the canola oil until cooked through (here’s a hint: I don’t like chewy meat, so I frequently cook the meat early in the day in my crockpot. When I’m ready to add it to the wok, it just needs to be tossed with the other ingredients to coat it with sauce. You can cook the meat the day before as well and refrigerate it until you need it.)
Follow the directions on the bag and steam the vegetables in the microwave. When done, add the veggies directly to the wok. Add the water chestnuts and stir to combine.
Add the sauce. I used approximately half the bottle. Cook over low heat until cooked through and sauce is slightly thickened. Top with tomatoes and serve with rice if desired.
