It’s winter. It’s cold (most of the time). And while my team missed the Super Bowl by three points, we have one last football game until the boring-ness of February sets in and we all start aching for sunshine.
That means … chili!
Nothing hits the spot like chili on Game Day and with my version, you can take advantage of everything you stocked up on at the ShopRite Can Can Sale!
This version can also be tossed into the crockpot if you like, so you can watch the game and stay out of the kitchen until it’s time to eat. And because it uses a lot of canned ingredients, your hands-on time is very little. It’s also loaded with protein and fiber, so you can indulge without ruining your New Year’s resolution.
3 Bean Chili
1 pound lean ground beef or ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp celery salt
1 small clove garlic, pressed or finely chopped
1 can ShopRite kidney beans, ShopRite garbanzo beans and ShopRite black beans
1 can ShopRite garbanzo beans
1 can ShopRite black beans
2 cans (8 oz each) ShopRite tomato sauce
2 cups water
1 Tbsp ShopRite baking cocoa
2 tsp hot sauce + more if desired
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp chili powder
shredded cheese and sour cream, optional
In a stockpot, cook the beef, onions, celery salt and garlic until the meat is browned through.
Add the beans, tomato sauce, water and seasonings, stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then cover and simmer 15-20 minutes.
Serve with sour cream and cheese if desired.
