This month, ShopRite Potluck Bloggers have been asked to share some of our favorite holiday recipes. I do have a few recipes that I have to make every year for Passover, but the one I am going to share with you is Spinach Pie. In our family, we tend to use the same menu for each holiday throughout the year – we are very big on tradition when it comes to food around the holidays. Something about knowing exactly what will be served and the person who is making it … well, it just makes it special.
This particular recipe was given to me when my husband and I got engaged. His aunt included the recipe for this dish with a lovely Passover cookbook and a seder plate for our engagement. There was a note on the recipe that said this was his favorite dish at holiday time. I’ve come to enjoy this dish as well over the years.
Spinach Pie is made up of simple ingredients and is a perfect “take along” dish for any holiday or potluck you may be heading off to enjoy. It can be made ahead of time and reheats beautifully! It also cooks up nice and dense so that cutting it into 2×2 squares is very easy to do.
Next time you are asked to bring a dish to a gathering, do give this a try. It is a family favorite for us and graces our table at nearly every holiday we celebrate together.

1 (10 oz.) package of frozen chopped spinach
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
16 oz. cottage cheese
1/2 cup matzah meal
3 eggs, well-beaten
salt to taste
pepper to taste
Cook and drain the spinach. Add all remaining ingredients and blend well. Place in either an ungreased 9-inch pie plate or a 8×10 (approximately) baking pan.
Bake uncovered 40-45 minutes.
This can be made in advance and kept in the fridge until ready to serve. Just reheat until warmed up.
