About: Emily

On Emily’s blog, Bacon is the Way to Happiness, you will see musings over recipes that are tried and true and some that are new. She believes that the reason that kitchens are the heart of the home is because food brings people together. Her earliest and happiest memories are centered around the dinner table. Crockpot Cheesy Kielbasa Breakfast Casserole

Posted by , January 23rd, 2015

I’d be lost without breakfast. I would be a total crazy person without it. With the world’s ever-quickening pace, I need every bit of fuel to get through the day. As wonderful as grab-and-go breakfasts are, they never seem to give me what I need. A good cooked breakfast is the best way to start off the day, Read More »

EMILY fall produce THUMBNAIL

Fettuccine with Figs, Bacon, and Walnut-Sage Cream Sauce

Posted by , November 6th, 2014

I am one who likes to have pumpkin with my pumpkin while having a side of pumpkin. After all, it is the fall, which means it’s pumpkin season. But, I need to give myself a break from the little orange squash time to time, so that I don’t pumpkin myself out before Thanksgiving. Read More »

There are fewer smells that transport me back to childhood and comfort faster than onions sautéing in butter. Read More »

Southern Style Hamburgers

Posted by , May 4th, 2013

There are few things in this world that I love more than a good hamburger. It’s true! My husband can attest to this fact. When we first began dating, hamburgers seemed to be the only thing that I would order when we were out for dinner. Amusingly enough, I wasn’t the one who made this realization. My love has me blind.

Not only do I love my hamburgers, but piling on a plethora of toppings makes me undeniably happy. Read More »

But I Wanted A Cupcake Bars

Posted by , October 3rd, 2012

I have confidence that I am not alone in this great big world when I say that I have occasional late-night snack attacks. I recently had one in which all I wanted was a cupcake.  I opened my refrigerator door, cupboards, pantry, and much to my chagrin no cupcake appeared.  I even looked under the kitchen sink, just in case.

I searched my house high and low, and looked through my window into my neighbor’s kitchen to see if perhaps she had foolishly placed a tray of freshly baked cupcakes in the window to cool. Read More »

Gnocchi with Arugula and Sun-Dried Tomatoes

G.K. Chesterton is quoted as saying that “music with dinner is an insult both to the cook and the violinist.”

Ah yes, that is an interesting notion, Mr. Chesterton. However, I’d like to challenge your statement to a certain degree: What if the cook is the one putting on the show. And, by a show, I mean by singing and dancing about the room. Read More »

Holiday Bark (Shown: Heath Chocolate)

Posted by , December 21st, 2011

I love to bake. It is one of my favorite things to do. At one point in time, I was baking two loaves of sandwich bread a week for my husband. Love. To. Bake.

As you can imagine, this time of year, become incredibly excited to spend as much time putting together sweet creations, while trying my best not to eat the batter before it goes into the oven. Read More »

Thinking Outside of the Pizza Box

Posted by , December 8th, 2011

The period between November to January is a time of greatness. Great parties. Great friends. Great foods. Great amounts of pounds. (We will ignore the pounds for now).
Someone invites you over for a dinner party, and asks that you bring an appetizer. You want to bring something easy, but not ‘typical.’

Then, a mini freak-out session commences. Never fear! Read More »

A Pasta Salad for All Seasons!

Posted by , September 22nd, 2011

It’s late September and Labor Day has come and long gone, so all things summerish should go too, right?

Well, except for maybe your white pants, since the jury is still out as to whether that is socially acceptable, I’d air on the side of caution.

K. But, back to enjoying summer year’ round …

East Meets West: General Tsao’s Ratatouille

Posted by , August 5th, 2011

General Tsao. Who was he? Perhaps a great warrior? Or maybe a great chicken cooker? The best karaoke singer of the East?

I guess we’ll never know, but one thing is for sure: General Tsao’s chicken is an American-Chinese dish that most people love eating, but almost immediately regret consuming after. It’s heavy and sooo full of sodium. Read More »
